Sessions
Individual Sessions
In an individual music therapy session, the therapist and client, along with any accompanying guardian, start by discussing the client's objectives and musical preferences. Engaging in activities such as improvisation, songwriting, or playing instruments, the therapist provides continuous support to the client. The ultimate aim is for the client to feel empowered and confident, equipped to apply their therapeutic experiences beyond the session in their everyday life.
Group Sessions
Group Music therapy is customized to the groups preferences and needs. The session may start out with a hello song, followed by a variety of musical experiences to accommodate different tastes. Activities are adapted for varying abilities, with personalized approaches to meet specific goals for the group. Reflection and feedback are encouraged throughout. Lindsey at Grassroots Music Therapy wants to provide a supportive environment where the participants can benefit from the therapeutic experience of music.
Hospice Sessions
In a hospice music therapy session, the therapist begins by understanding the patient's needs and preferences. Through live or recorded music, patients are encouraged to express emotions and find comfort. Music therapists use certain techniques to help manage pain and anxiety. Family members are encouraged to participate at times to enhance connection and to support the grieving process. The aim is to offer compassionate support, peace, and dignity during end-of-life care.
